Shanxi builds industry clusters to revitalize rural areas

Fruit industrial clusters

Based on its dried and fresh fruit resources, Shanxi province will develop industrial clusters for apricot fruit deep processing in its northern part. It will develop industrial clusters for apple, pear, grape, peach, cherry, hawthorn and pomegranate deep processing in the central and southern region -- as well as industrial clusters for red dates, walnut, apple and pear deep processing in areas on the Taihang Mountains and Lyuliang Mountain. 

The province will develop regional public brands of fruits such as apples from Jixian county, crisp pears from Xixian county and cherries from Jiangxian county. To improve the competitiveness of Shanxi fruit, the province will further open up its fruit industry to the outside world through the Shanxi (Yuncheng) International Fruit Expo. 

Functional food industrial clusters

Based on the local advantages of miscellaneous grains, fruit and traditional Chinese medicine, Shanxi province will develop industrial clusters for functional edible oil products in northwestern region. It will develop industrial clusters for functional miscellaneous grain products in its northern region, as well as industrial clusters for mineral foods in the southeastern region and industrial clusters for fruit woods in western region.

In addition, the province will promote the brand of Shanxi functional foods and speed up the certification of green, organic and geographical indication agricultural products. 

Dietary supplement industrial clusters

Shanxi province will develop vinegar and alcoholic-made dietary supplement industrial clusters in its central areas. It will develop traditional Chinese medicine and honey-made dietary supplement processing industrial clusters in its southern region -- as well as deep processing of seabuckthorn, linseed tartary buckwheat, and astragalus membranaceus-made dietary supplements in the northern region.

It will encourage established dietary supplement companies to develop well-known brands based on traditional Chinese medicine formulas and explore and protect traditional dietary supplements.

Cosmetics industrial clusters

Based on its abundant local animal and plant resources, Shanxi will develop collagen and Chinese herbal cosmetics industrial clusters in its central region.

It will develop plant extract and Salt Lake mud-made cosmetics industrial clusters in its southern region as well as astragalus and mealworm-made cosmetics industrial clusters in the northern region. 

The province will promote the integrated development of the mobile internet and cosmetics by advancing integrated operations for online transactions, warehousing and logistics and distribution of terminals.

It will encourage cosmetics companies to create a number of independent, well-known brands and support companies in transforming product patents into product standards. 

TCM industrial clusters

Relying on its local rich TCM resources, Shanxi will develop deep processing industrial clusters for the Changzhi codonopsis pilosula, forsythia suspense and sophora flavescens-made Chinese patent medicines in areas of the Taihang Mountains.

It will deep processing industrial clusters for forsythia suspense, radix bupleuri and isatis root-made medicine in areas around Taiyue Mountain. It will develop deep processing industrial clusters for astragalus membranaceus-made medicine in the Hengshan Mountain area. 

The province will develop deep processing industrial clusters for large-flowered skullcap root and polygala root-made medicine in the hilly areas of southern Shanxi -- as well as gentiana macrophylla, saposhnikovia divaricata and dracocephalum rupestre-made medicine in areas around Guancen Mountain. 

The province will improve major TCM companies' innovation capabilities to develop local time-honored TCM brands. In the meantime, it will promote the construction of a TCM big data system -- and establish a modern logistics system integrating TCM planting and cultivation, primary processing, packaging, warehousing, transportation and marketing.
