Yangquan Municipal People's Congress holds annual session

The sixth session of the 15th Yangquan Municipal People's Congress opened on Feb 23 in Yangquan city in North China's Shanxi province, with 263 deputies attending the event.

Lei Jiankun, mayor of Yangquan, delivered a report on the municipal government's work and achievements made in 2020 at the first plenary sitting. 

She also announced new targets for the city's development in 2021 in nine significant areas, including innovation, the construction of a modern industrial system, deepening reforms and the opening-up process, integrated urban and rural development, environmental protection and improving the quality of living of its citizens. 

Over and above 11 measures carried out by the Shanxi provincial government to better serve residents and improve their lives, Yangquan will continue to increase the standard per capita financial subsidy of basic medical insurance for urban and rural residents, establish and implement a supplementary pension insurance system for urban and rural residents and increase and update community recreational and sporting fitness equipment.

There are eight agenda items for attendees at the ongoing three-day session. These include receiving and reviewing the report on the work of Yangquan municipal government, reviewing the city's 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for socioeconomic development and discussing the city's long-range objectives through 2035.  

Deputies have also been examining the report on the implementation of the 2020 national economic and social development plan by Yangquan's government, as well as the draft 2021 economic and social development plan. 

The city's overall budget revenue in 2020 and the draft budget for 2021 will also be reviewed during the session.
