The fifth session of the 13th Yangquan Municipal Committee of the ongoing Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened on Feb 22 in Yangquan city in North China's Shanxi province.

The three-day conference's opening ceremony was attended by 258 political advisers, including Yang Yongsheng, chairman of the CPPCC Yangquan Committee.

Yang delivered the CPPCC Yangquan Committee's work report, reviewing the committee's and political advisers' efforts and achievements in 2020 and setting out the work plan for 2021.

He said that in 2021, the committee would continue to play a positive role as a specialized political advisory body and contribute to implementing the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for Yangquan.

Zhang Lijun, vice-chairman of the 13th CPPCC Yangquan Committee, reported on the handling of 381 proposals submitted by individual political advisers, political parties and organizations over the past year.

Among the proposals, 80.1 percent were from individual political advisers and 19.9 percent were from political parties and organizations, Zhang said.

He added that 343 of the submitted proposals were placed on record for further discussion and 38 were taken as suggestions for reference to Yangquan government departments.

By the end of December, related government departments completed the handling of all the submitted proposals.

In addition, many of the suggestions put forward in the proposals were fully adopted. This reportedly boosted the Yangquan municipal government's efficient decision-making and its work improvements, as well as helped build consensus among all parties.
