The Shanxi Promotion and Exchange Week and Online Presentation of Winter Tourism Activities started in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, on Jan 22.

The event, sponsored by the Shanxi Department of Culture and Tourism, Shanxi Sport Bureau and Datong municipal people's government, was themed around enjoying the beauty of Shanxi and anticipating the upcoming Beijing Winter Olympics. 

It showcased Shanxi's rich and diverse winter tourism resources to domestic and international tourists so as to attract more international athletes and tourists to Shanxi, and promote the development of an internationally famous cultural tourism destination.

At the launch ceremony, international representatives described their connections to Shanxi and various Shanxi intangible cultural heritage folk performances were staged, showcasing the unique charm of Shanxi culture.

The event was highlighted by the release of the Shanxi ice and snow tourism map, as well as six recommended winter tourism routes. 

Live broadcasts of the event were simultaneously aired on multiple media platforms and nearly 2 million people around the world watched it.
