Founded in August 1992, Jincheng Economic and Technological Development Area (晋城经济技术开发区) in the east of Jincheng city, Shanxi province, was approved by the State Council as a national economic and technological development area in March 2013. 

With a planned area of 9.86 square kilometers, the development area is close to several highways and railways, such as Jincheng-Jiaozuo Highway and Taiyuan-Jiaozuo Railway. 

As the local business and investment environment has improved, more projects have been introduced to the development area. It has developed an industrial structure featuring photoelectric communications, mechanical casting, silk and linen clothing, biomedicine and new materials sectors with businesspeople from the United States, Japan, South Africa, Hong Kong and Taiwan investing in the area.
