Shanxi to enhance integrated transportation network
Updated: 2026-01-28
This year, Shanxi province is set to focus on enhancing connectivity between urban clusters and town circles, aiming to strengthen the comprehensive transportation network and boost the province's transportation service capabilities.
In advancing the construction of a cross-regional corridor along the Yellow River, Shanxi will continue to advance work on pending sections of national highways. The province plans to commence construction on the G5518 Yangcheng-Yuncheng Expressway, enhancing the freight capabilities of the Yellow River corridor.
Meanwhile, the province will accelerate preliminary work on key projects such as the G5911 Shuozhou-Taiyuan and G0513 Pingyao-Anze routes. These efforts are focused on creating a passage connecting Taiyuan with northern Shanxi's urban circles and a rapid link to Central China's urban clusters.
To promote integrated development of the central Shanxi urban cluster and the Taiyuan metropolitan area, the province will start preliminary work on expanding busy sections of national highways like the G5 Qixian-Linfen section and the G55 Taiyuan-Changzhi section, which will help strengthen connections between central Shanxi and the southern and southeastern urban circles.
In support of the development of a new inland opening-up beacon, Shanxi plans to build a comprehensive transportation hub system. In terms of passenger transport, the focus will be on increasing the convenience of intermodal travel, while exploring the thorough integration of data among bus stations, high-speed rail, and airports in an effort to create a "one-stop" travel ecosystem.
Shanxi will also enhance multimodal transport efficiency to foster the growth of comprehensive logistics hubs. In particular, the province will seek to strengthen Taiyuan and Datong's roles as national transportation hubs, improving their capacity for cross-regional distribution and transfer.
