The "Shanxi Brands on the Silk Road" event made its way to Switzerland, where the Shanxi-Switzerland Economic and Trade Cooperation Promotion Meeting was held in Zurich on Nov 27. The event aimed to foster multi-sector economic exchanges between Shanxi province and Switzerland through visits, promotional activities, and business matchmaking.

The Shanxi trade delegation visited the Chinese Consulate General in Zurich, the Swiss-Chinese Enterprises Association, and the Swiss-Chinese Chamber of Commerce. These visits highlighted Shanxi's achievements and advantages in high-quality transformation and comprehensive openness, fostering mutually beneficial cooperation.

In the promotion section, representatives from Shanxi companies like Shanxi Transportation Holdings Group Co and Shanxi Jiaokong Technology Transformation Co showcased their strengths and shared industry insights. Representatives from SBB Company and the Sino Euro Entrepreneur Club also introduced their enterprises.

"Shanxi offers numerous opportunities with its robust industrial foundation, strong manufacturing capabilities, and increasing focus on green transformation. These opportunities align with Switzerland's strengths in clean technology, environmental engineering, life sciences, equipment manufacturing, and financial services," said Xie Guoxiang, commercial counselor at the Chinese Embassy in Switzerland. He also expressed his willingness to foster cooperation between Shanxi and Switzerland by creating favorable conditions and providing necessary services.

Switzerland is China's sixth-largest trading partner in Europe, while China is Switzerland's largest trading partner in Asia. In 2024, the trade volume between Shanxi and Switzerland reached 80 million yuan ($11.3 million), a 64.5 percent increase from the previous year. Key trade items included textile machinery parts, inductors, and photovoltaic cells.

Following the promotional event, the Shanxi Provincial Committee of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Swiss-Chinese Enterprises Association signed a strategic cooperation agreement to strengthen economic and trade exchanges.
