As a traditional energy powerhouse, Shanxi province is actively transforming its development approach and adjusting its economic structure. It aims to shift its traditional industries toward green coal and new power generation and accelerate the construction of a modern industrial system.

In 2024, Shanxi's electronic information, high-end equipment manufacturing, and modern consumer goods sectors achieved revenues of 200 billion yuan ($27.65 billion), 180 billion yuan, and 140 billion yuan, respectively. The Shanxi Data Traffic Valley attracted over 1,000 enterprises, with data element circulation and transaction volumes exceeding 4.6 billion yuan. Additionally, 1,599 new high-tech enterprises and 626 specialized and innovative small and medium-sized enterprises were cultivated.

Modernizing the industrial chain signifies improvements in the modern industrial system's quality and efficiency. In 2024, the total revenue of the province's key industrial chains reached 710 billion yuan. By the end of this year, the provincial industrial chain's overall revenue is expected to surpass 800 billion yuan.

Major projects are the core drivers of the modern industrial system's construction. During the first "Project Signing, Commencement and Launch" event of 2025 in provincial development zones, 177 projects were signed with a total investment of 56.83 billion yuan; 158 projects started construction with a total investment of 37.19 billion yuan; and 159 projects were put into operation with a total investment of 41.97 billion yuan.

These projects focus on distinctive industrial clusters, targeting fields such as electronic information, new energy, new materials, biomedicine, and high-end equipment manufacturing. This underscores the province's current industrial strengths and outlines the development trajectory of Shanxi's modern industrial landscape in the coming years.
