During the May Day holiday, residents of Shanxi province enthusiastically engaged in leisure travel, family activities, and shopping, contributing to a vibrant consumer market. Monitoring data shows that in-person consumption in Shanxi reached 15.13 billion yuan ($2.09 billion), marking a 6.53 percent year-on-year increase.

The Department of Commerce of Shanxi Province capitalized on the holiday shopping surge and old-for-new trade-in opportunities, guiding cities to implement detailed promotional policies for major enterprises, particularly in the automotive, home appliance, and mobile phone sectors. This initiative spurred 1.3 billion yuan in consumption during the holiday.

Local governments across Shanxi employed regional customs, cultural and tourism offerings, and specialty products to create diverse opportunities for consumption, such as shopping festivals, cultural events, and specialty product exhibitions. Monitoring data indicates steady growth in key sectors, with retail, accommodation, and catering revenues increasing by 6.47 percent, 7.92 percent, and 9.46 percent, respectively.

The tourism market in Shanxi also flourished, with attractions enhancing their offerings and visitor experiences through special activities. The province attracted 1.98 million out-of-province visitors, generating 2.24 billion yuan in spending during the holiday.

Xinzhou Ancient City experienced a surge in tourism-related spending, with store revenues significantly rising, specialty lodging bookings exceeding 90 percent, and average visitor stay extending beyond eight hours. This trend boosted consumption across the dining, retail, and entertainment sectors.

The House of the Huangcheng Chancellor Cultural Tourism Area hosted the "Taihang Ancient Castle Cultural Arts Week", allowing visitors to immerse themselves in a blend of culture, technology, and traditional Chinese arts. This event comprehensively catered to tourists' cultural, recreational, and culinary needs.
