The "Pritzker Sino-US Museum Leadership Dialogue and Exchange Program", co-initiated by the Chinese Museums Association and the Pritzker Art Collaborative, recently kicked off in New York City, United States.
Through high-level dialogues, seminars, and field visits, it aims to deepen systematic cooperation between Chinese and American museums in cultural heritage preservation, exhibition planning, and academic research.
The inaugural event, the "Sino-US Museum Leadership Roundtable", was held at Columbia University under the theme "Chinese Museums in the Age of Globalization: Cooperation and Exchange". The Chinese delegation comprised representatives from over ten national-level key museums and cultural institutions, who shared insights on artifact preservation and regional cultural dissemination.
Wang Xiaoyi, director of Shanxi Museum, delivered a keynote speech about tomb murals, highlighting that Shanxi Museum holds nearly 1,000 square meters of ancient murals. Among these, murals from the Northern Dynasty (386-581) represent the pinnacle of the era's artistic achievement and are unique within China's museum collections.
Over the years, the Shanxi Museum has continuously cultivated professional researchers in mural preservation, research, exhibition, and digitization. It has established a comprehensive and distinctive approach to tomb mural cultural heritage preservation and utilization by innovating restoration techniques, creating exhibition brands, and enriching educational outreach methods.
