Updated: 2025-03-10
In response to this year's government work report emphasizing ecological protection, resource conservation, and green, low-carbon development, North China's Shanxi is striving to build a beautiful province characterized by harmonious ecology and green development.
Shanxi has consistently integrated ecological construction and soil and water conservation into the high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin. The province promotes comprehensive restoration and management across the entire region, counties, and river basins. This includes national land greening, small drainage area management, and mine ecological restoration projects to enhance the Yellow River Basin's sustainable development.
Shanxi is actively implementing a strategic cooperation framework agreement with Shaanxi province for the Yellow River Basin’s ecological protection and high-quality development. Efforts are being made to advance key projects such as protecting and managing the Shanxi-Shaanxi Grand Canyon.
Shanxi is also constructing a unique and advantageous linkage innovation and industrial system. By creating ecological products through multiple channels and establishing a sound mechanism for commercializing these products, the province is gradually forming a new model of modern development that harmonizes people and nature.
The province is developing eco-tourism, forest wellness, and nature education industries tailored to local conditions and currently boasts 104 national-level forest wellness bases. Eco-tourism attracted 40.48 million visitors in 2024, generating a total income of 2.68 billion yuan ($368.94 million).
Shanxi will continue to promote the green transformation of its industrial structure, steadily advance carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, and strictly implement ecological environment zoning controls and the overall control requirements of the Yellow River Basin ecological environment access list.
