The raw coal output from enterprises above the designated size in North China's Shanxi province reached 1.27 billion metric tons in 2024, accounting for approximately 26.7 percent of the national total.

An official from the Shanxi Provincial Energy Administration highlighted the province's pivotal role in ensuring the stability of coal and coal-fired power supply amid international and domestic complexities. Shanxi has secured a long-term contract price to meet the coal demand of 24 provinces, stabilizing coal prices and supply and making significant contributions to national energy security.

In 2024, Shanxi accelerated the expansion of its coal mine production capacity, enhancing its energy supply security. Seven newly constructed coal mines commenced trial operations, 10 passed completion inspections, and five increased their production capacities.

Shanxi has also been promoting the clean and efficient utilization of coal. Advanced coal production capacity accounted for 83 percent of the province's total, and the number of intelligent coal mines reached 268.
