2025 Pingyao Chinese New Year festivity kicks off

The 2025 "Our Festival·Spring Festival" Pingyao Chinese New Year event was launched at Shuanglin Temple in Pingyao county, Jinzhong, North China's Shanxi province, on Jan 22.

The 2025 Pingyao Chinese New Year event, with the theme "Chinese New Year·World New Year", will run from Jan 22 to Feb 13. The festivities are divided into three main segments: "Auspicious Year of the Snake", "Happy Year of the Snake", and "Safe Year of the Snake", encompassing 15 activities.

The event will focus on Pingyao's traditional intangible cultural heritage (ICH) customs, highlighting the successful inclusion of the Spring Festival on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. 

From Jan 29 to Feb 11, Pingyao's unique folk activities will be held throughout the city. A grand display of local folk performances, including lion dances and yangko dances, will also be performed to showcase the county's vibrant Chinese New Year customs.

Three bustling ICH markets at Xingguo Temple site, Shuimotou village, and Pingyao Chayuan Museum will offer visitors an immersive experience of ICH culture.

Pingyao Yuan Scenic Area has meticulously planned over 20 activities across five segments. Highlights include "ICH Town Chinese New Year Customs", "Grassland Equestrian Show", and "Camping Experience with Gourmet Food", allowing visitors to enjoy natural beauty while experiencing Pingyao's ICH and culinary delights.

Additionally, the "Spring Festival in Pingyao" online selection event will choose 15 unique inns to design traditional Chinese New Year experience packages. This initiative will recruit domestic and international tourists online, further enhancing the online presence and influence of the Ancient City of Pingyao.
