The 2025 Shanxi Provincial Government Work Report emphasizes the province's mission to accelerate the transformation of its cultural and tourism industry into a strategic pillar industry and a livelihood-enhancing industry, increase its cultural influence and become an internationally renowned cultural tourism destination.

Zhu Xiaodong, deputy to the Shanxi Provincial People's Congress and Party secretary of Xinzhou, stated that Xinzhou will focus on developing its cultural and tourism sectors to become a world-class cultural and tourism destination.

Xinzhou is rich in cultural and tourism offerings, making it both an important region culturally and a popular tourist area. It is the only city in Shanxi that offers access to the Yellow River, the Great Wall, and the Taihang Mountains. The recent Chinese game Black Myth: Wukong, which became a global sensation, is inspired by six locations in Xinzhou.

In the 2024 Most Promising Cultural Tourism Cities Report, Xinzhou ranked second nationwide, with the total number of visitors and ticket revenue in the city's five key scenic areas increasing by 16.8 percent and 18.2 percent, respectively.

Zhu stated that moving forward, Xinzhou will take advantage of the Yellow River, the Great Wall, and the Taihang Mountains to promote tourism throughout the region and during all seasons. Focusing on five key scenic areas, including Wutai Mountain, Xinzhou will connect 36 national protected sites and 51 A-level scenic areas, planning a number of seasonal cultural tourism routes, products, and strategies.

Meanwhile, the city will integrate cultural tourism and cultural creativity, coordinate the protection and revitalization of cultural relics and resources, and promote the development of distinctive homestays, effectively transforming the cultural tourism industry into a strategic pillar industry.
