Shanxi launches series of ICH-themed Chinese New Year activities

The 2025 "Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH)-themed Chinese New Year" promotional event was launched on Jan 10 in the Ancient City of Pingyao, Jinzhong city, North China's Shanxi province.
The event unveiled hundreds of ICH-themed activities across 11 city-level cultural and sports venues. Blending traditional and modern elements, full-day events are designed to create a vibrant festive atmosphere.

The event introduced the "Shanxi Spring Festival Folk Intangible Cultural Heritage Illustrated Handbook", which categorizes the province's 179 provincial-level and above ICH projects related to Spring Festival into four regions: North Shanxi, Central Shanxi, South Shanxi, and Southeast Shanxi.
The Culture and Tourism Department of Shanxi Province will also host a Spring Festival ICH folk art exhibition at the Taiyuan Art Museum during Spring Festival. This exhibition will feature New Year woodblock paintings, creating an immersive Spring Festival experience.
Shanxi will offer a variety of festive New Year activities. Traditional folk activities include "Pingyao Chinese New Year" in the Ancient City of Pingyao and the "Chinese New Year in Xinzhou" themed event. Traditional folk performances will be showcased in events such as the Lantern Festival performance in Wuxiang, Changzhi, and the street performances in Xiyang, Jinzhong.
Lantern festivals will be held in the Ancient City of Datong and Taiyuan Ancient County Town. Temple fairs and markets include the Year of the Snake temple fair in Dayang Ancient Town, Jincheng, and the immersive Northern Wei Dynasty (386-534) costume market in the Ancient City of Datong.
