Updated: 2025-01-09
"This year at the 2025 Shanxi Provincial Two Sessions, I will continue to offer suggestions on rural vitalization and cultural heritage," said Zhang Zhili, a deputy to the Shanxi Provincial People's Congress and a producer and director at Datong Radio and Television Station.
Zhang is now engaging with the public at Shanxi Provincial People's Congress deputy liaison station, conducting research in villages and enterprises, and refining proposals before the provincial two sessions.
For Datong, a time-honored ancient city, cultural heritage represents a vibrant expression of its historical and regional characteristics. It serves as a crucial engine for the high-quality development of local cultural and tourism industries.
"Preserving cultural heritage means safeguarding our cultural roots. We aim to capture the beauty of traditional culture and cultural relics, evoke the emotions and wisdom of our ancestors, and raise awareness for their protection," said Zhang.
In early 2024, Zhang's documentary Memories of Datong aired and sparked widespread discussion. It earned recognition as an exemplary national multimedia work and stood out in the "16th China Yangzhou Tourism TV Week" special category.
The documentary vividly showcases Datong's distinctive cultural symbols through realistic documentation. It includes ancient architecture, calligraphy, murals, traditional opera, and folk crafts, fully displaying Datong's local cultural essence. Zhang explained, "This year, I will continue to focus on cultural preservation issues and contribute to building Shanxi into a culturally strong province."
Looking ahead to her future, Zhang is confident, stating, "As a Shanxi Provincial People's Congress deputy, I will delve to the grassroots level, conduct on-site visits, and truly fulfill my duties through practical actions."
