Updated: 2024-12-19
Eagerly anticipating visitors from across the country, North China's Shanxi province has unveiled over 260 activities across five winter tourism themes: folk customs celebration, ice and snow vacations, ancient architecture studies, hot spring and health, and winter scenery photography.
The winter cultural tourism activities will run from Dec 1 to Feb 13. During this period, Shanxi will host distinctive events such as the "Intangible Cultural Heritage & Chinese New Year in Pingyao Ancient City" and the "2025 Shanxi Traditional Chinese New Year Customs and Arts Exhibition".
Under the folk customs celebration theme, cultural activities such as lion dances, yangko dances, processions, and temple fairs will offer visitors unique and unforgettable experiences.
With abundant ice and snow resources, various locations in Shanxi will offer ice lantern viewing, ice sculpture appreciation, ice sledding, snowman building, and snowball fights. Multiple ski resorts in the province will host diverse skiing festivals, ice and snow photography exhibitions, and concerts.
The ancient architecture studies theme will feature study tours at scenic spots, museums, and cultural heritage sites and introduce premium Shanxi study tour routes, courses, and products to enrich students' cultural experiences during the winter break.
Based on its rich hot spring resources, Shanxi will provide countryside retreats, medical tourism, hot spring wellness, and elderly care. It offers visitors a vibrant journey to explore ancient temples and savor authentic Shanxi cuisine while experiencing the province's hot springs.
The ice waterfall spectacle at Hukou Waterfall on the Yellow River and the snowy landscapes of the Mianshan and Shigao mountains offer excellent settings for winter photography. Various locations will host winter photography contests and exhibitions this season, inviting visitors to witness stunning and rarely seen winter moments.
