Shanxi No 1 tourist highways national cycling open commences

The inaugural National Cycling Open Race on Shanxi's three No 1 Tourist Highways kicked off on Oct 27 at the Wuxing Lake Wetland Park in Yongji, North China's Shanxi province.
Nearly 300 domestic and international athletes, cycling enthusiasts, and social club representatives engaged in the thrilling competition.

The race started from Wuxing Lake Wetland Park, passing through bird habitats of the park, Shundi Mountain Forest Park, Shentan Grand Canyon in Zhongtiao Mountain, and the ancient Puzhou Ferry Port. It culminated at the Guanque Tower, one of China's four great towers, and covered a total distance of approximately 46.7 kilometers.
Participants enjoyed the natural landscapes of mountains, waters, forests, and birds along the route, as well as the historical ancient ferry port and high towers. The local area showcased beautiful and diverse scenery and a rich history throughout the route.
Xie Peng, mayor of Yongji city, highlighted that the 323.4-km Yellow River No 1 Tourist Highway (Yongji section) connects over 20 scenic spots to create a comprehensive urban, rural, and scenic tourism pattern.
Wang Lin, chairman of Huajian Sports Holding Group Co, stated, "2024 marks the completion of the three No 1 Tourist Highways. This event will promote the integration of transportation, tourism, and sports, boost regional economic development, and showcase Shanxi's charm."
After intense competition, Hu Zhichao of the Zhihao-BROSS Team won the championship. Vitalii Novakovskyi of GUSTO SUPERTEAM China and Zhang Haodong of the 1717EVR Chang'an Cycling Team secured second and third place, respectively.
