The launching ceremony of the 2024 Wildlife Conservation Month and the Autumn-Winter Migratory Bird Protection Action was held at the Shanxi Natural History Museum in Taiyuan, North China's Shanxi province, on Oct 22.

The event unveiled the second Shanxi bird-watching map, featuring 10 new bird-watching sites located in the cities of Shuozhou, Jincheng, Jinzhong, Xinzhou, Linfen, Changzhi, Lyuliang, and Yuncheng.

Yue Kuiqing, deputy director of the Shanxi Forestry and Grassland Bureau, highlighted Shanxi's efforts in wildlife conservation, including endangered species rescue, extensive conservation education, and the effective protection and development of wildlife resources in the province.

Specifically, the wildlife population has increased, habitats have expanded, and the protection rates of key wildlife and plant species have reached 80.9 percent and 78 percent, respectively.

During this year's Wildlife Conservation Month, forestry departments at all levels in Shanxi will organize activities such as the Chinese Brown Eared Pheasant Protection Alliance meeting, press conferences, educational outreach in schools, and training sessions to promote the province's achievements in wildlife conservation and biodiversity protection. They will also plan specific tasks to implement the Autumn-Winter Migratory Bird Protection Action.
