As North China's Shanxi province welcomes the 7th Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival, the province is witnessing another bountiful summer grain harvest. Total summer grain output has reached 2.48 million metric tons, a 0.5-percent annual increase, with a record high yield of 313.5 kilograms per mu (0.07 hectares).
This year, Shanxi promptly allocated 3.50 billion yuan ($497.51 million) to farmland fertility protection subsidies and agricultural machinery purchases to support diversified and high-yield grain production. Additionally, 931 million yuan was arranged as production subsidies to bolster grain cultivation.
Over 14,000 agricultural technicians across the province provided on-site guidance for farmers on autumn grain field management practices. To combat localized drought conditions, artificial rain operations were actively conducted, with 120 million yuan in disaster relief funds allocated at all levels to support drought-resistant measures in high-temperature arid regions.
In recent years, the province has focused on entity cultivation, industrial aggregation, agricultural product processing, and brand marketing to advance the development of premium agriculture. By 2023, six national leading enterprises, 94,000 farmer cooperatives, and 42,000 agricultural social service entities had emerged, while 59,000 family farms were included in the national family farm directory system.
Moreover, Shanxi has enhanced its policy framework, strengthened financial support, promoted training and guidance, and conducted concentrated environmental remediation. Through the implementation of tiered programs focusing on the development of demonstration villages, village upgrades, and environmental enhancements, the province is steadfastly enhancing rural environments and improving living conditions for villagers.
