Shanxi-built Doboj Hospital in Bosnia and Herzegovina opens
Updated: 2024-09-19
The Doboj Hospital in Bosnia and Herzegovina, constructed jointly by China Sinopharm International Corporation and Shanxi Construction Investment Group Co, officially opened on Sept 4.
This project marks the first medical project encompassing financing, design, procurement, and construction undertaken by a Chinese company in Europe. With a total area of 28,000 square meters, the Doboj Hospital boasts 450 beds and eight clean operating rooms. Various departments, including emergency, pediatrics, internal medicine, and surgery, cater to around 300,000 residents.
Situated in a Mediterranean climate zone, the hospital's roofing must withstand frequent rainfall and humid air while ensuring excellent waterproofing, insulation, and structural safety maintenance. After thorough research, the project team opted for TPO waterproofing membranes for the roof due to their enhanced adaptability, longer lifespan, and suitability for medical building requirements.
To enhance the hospital's water supply network, the team incorporated a water softening system to reduce calcium and magnesium ions to safe levels for human consumption, prolonging the lifespan of medical equipment and other systems. A medical wastewater treatment station was also constructed to provide a safety barrier for the surrounding community, agricultural development, and natural environment.
