Shanxi sees summer inbound travel boom
Trip, an online ticketing service company, released the 2024 Summer Travel Market Report on Aug 28. The report revealed a significant boost in the tourism sector of North China's Shanxi province.
It highlights a 138-percent year-on-year increase in inbound travel to the province, with Taiyuan ranking fourth among domestic cities for hotel order growth.
The release of China's first AAA-level game, Black Myth: Wukong, has propelled Shanxi to the top of travel search lists. Xiaoxitian Scenic Area, which inspired one of the in-game locations, saw a 261-percent increase in ticket orders compared to last year.
Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Xi'an, and Guangzhou emerged as Shanxi's primary sources of tourists. The Yungang Grottoes, Xuankong Temple, Pingyao Ancient City, and Wutai Mountain were some of the most popular attractions. The top summer attractions in Taiyuan, Shanxi's capital city, were the Taiyuan Botanical Garden, Taishan Mountain, and Shanxi Museum.
Cross-border tourism was a significant highlight of this summer's travel market. Trip's data showed a 138-percent year-on-year increase in inbound travel to Shanxi and a 57-percent increase to Taiyuan specifically.
South Korea currently leads with the largest number of tourists visiting China this summer, followed by Thailand, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, the United States, Australia, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, and the Philippines.
