North China's Shanxi province has released the "Shanxi Province Biodiversity Protection Strategy and Action Plan (2024-2030)", outlining 28 priority actions aimed at improving biodiversity conservation throughout the province.
By 2025, the plan seeks to establish a comprehensive system of policies, regulations, monitoring, and evaluation for biodiversity protection. Objectives include an 80-percent protection rate for key wild plant and animal species, a 22.6 percent increase in forest coverage, and a 73.5 percent increase in grassland vegetation coverage.
Looking ahead to 2030, the plan intends to significantly reduce biodiversity loss, enhance sustainable utilization of biological resources, and improve overall biodiversity conservation and management. By this date, the target is to have achieved a forest coverage rate of 24.9 percent and a grassland vegetation coverage rate of 74 percent, with protected areas covering 11 percent of the province's lands.
To achieve these goals, Shanxi has outlined five key strategies: building a social action system for biodiversity protection, enhancing biodiversity protection management capabilities, optimizing the layout of biodiversity conservation sites, improving the sustainable utilization of biological resources, and strengthening biosecurity management and risk prevention.
