Updated: 2024-08-07
In recent years, North China's Shanxi province has been working to promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries, comprehensive reforms in energy revolution pilot projects, and the efficient utilization of resources, leading to positive outcomes in green transformation and development.
Shanxi has curbed the environmentally-damaging development of high-energy-consuming, and high-emission projects in industries such as steel, coking, cement, and non-ferrous metals, as it seeks to optimize and improve traditional industries. Efforts to enhance research and manufacturing capabilities in the aviation industry have been accelerated, and a group of leading domestic companies involved in the photovoltaic industrial chain have set up operations in the province.
In the first half of this year, the added value of high-tech manufacturing in the province increased by 10.5 percent year-on-year, significantly surpassing the growth rate of the added value of industries above designated size. Shanxi ranked first among China's six Central provinces in terms of the number of 5G base stations per 10,000 people, reflecting a thriving digital economy.
Simultaneously, efforts to promote the intelligent construction of coal mines have been strengthened, with advanced coal production capacity accounting for over 80 percent of the province's total. The development of new energy and clean energy has been accelerated, with the installed capacity reaching 64.49 million kilowatts by the end of June, constituting 47.2 percent of the total installed capacity of electricity.
Furthermore, Shanxi has been advancing the development and utilization of unconventional water sources, with six cities including Taiyuan and Datong approved as key cities for national recycled water utilization, putting it among the four provinces with the highest number of selected cities nationwide.
