Shanxi athlete Zhao Nan 'shoots' way into Paris Olympics finals

In her Olympic debut, Zhao Nan, an athlete from North China's Shanxi province, reached the final of the women's 25m pistol event at the Paris 2024 Olympics on the afternoon of Aug 3, Beijing time. This is the first time a female shooter from Shanxi has qualified for the Olympics and reached the finals.

Zhao secured her place in the final after achieving a score of 586 in the qualification round, placing her fifth overall. The final consisted of three rounds of shooting, with five shots per round. Zhao scored three points in the first and second rounds and four points in the third round for a total of 10 points, tying for second place with four other athletes.

The second stage of the competition employed a last-place elimination system, where the last-placed athlete after each five-shot set was eliminated. Despite achieving scores of four, three, and four in the following three sets, Zhao ultimately tied for fifth place. In the seventh set, she scored two, ending her run and securing her place as the fifth-ranked athlete in the event.
