North China's Shanxi province has witnessed a surge in its culture, tourism and wellness industry in recent years, as the province's cultural and tourism departments have been actively promoting the industry by deepening supply-side structural reforms, fostering competitiveness, and supporting high-quality development.
In January 2024, Datong city, Jincheng city, Qinyuan county, Yunzhou district of Datong, Lingchuan county, Zuoquan county, and Yuanqu county in Shanxi province were all included in the 2023 top cities and counties list for the sustainable development capability in the culture, tourism and wellness industry. This achievement marked the rapid formation of an inter-provincial culture, tourism and wellness landscape.
In recent years, Shanxi has been actively promoting an integrated industrial model combining culture, tourism, and wellness by pioneering new wellness and tourism paths. Several demonstration zones and industrial clusters have attracted considerable attention within the industry.
For instance, Jinyuan district in Taiyuan has set its sights on becoming a wellness hub by integrating agriculture, culture, and tourism. The district has cultivated six major series of wellness products related to culture, vacationing, the countryside, forests, sports, and medicine.
Moving forward, Shanxi's cultural and tourism departments will focus on building a modern industrial system that leverages the province's unique strengths. It will strive to establish partnerships with various industries such as food, accommodation, transportation, travel, shopping, entertainment, and senior care so as to further enhance Shanxi's reputation for high-quality culture, tourism and wellness experiences.
