In recent years, North China's Shanxi province has taken a multi-pronged approach to developing the province's vegetable industry by establishing standards, conducting technical research, and creating demonstration bases.

One key initiative is the mechanized cultivation of summer and autumn cool-season vegetables. This involves technological research and development in fields such as variety selection, soil preparation, accurate seeding, high-speed planting, and efficient water and fertilizer application.

At the same time, Shanxi has implemented over 10 industrial development policies and allocated 1.26 billion yuan ($173.38 million) in fiscal funds to support the construction and renovation of nearly 100,000 mu (6,666.67 hectares) of vegetable production facilities across the province. This has significantly boosted the scale and production capacity of the vegetable industry.

In 2023, the province compiled 25 technical plans to formulate the standards for vegetable production across the province. Additionally, experts from the industrial technological system built up 17 teams and platforms to help make technological breakthroughs and provide technical services.

These efforts have positioned Shanxi's vegetable industry towards greater scale, standardization, and mechanization, thus contributing to rural vitalization.
