Updated: 2024-06-27
In recent years, North China's Shanxi province has made significant progress in its green and low-carbon energy transformation, providing strong support for developing the comprehensive reform pilot of the energy revolution in the province.
In the first quarter of 2024, the installed capacity of new and clean energy reached 62.13 million kilowatts, accounting for 46.3 percent of total energy in the province, with the proportion of power generation reaching 27 percent. Meanwhile, unconventional natural gas production reached 3.87 billion cubic meters, a year-on-year increase of 7.1 percent.
Furthermore, the development and utilization of hydrogen energy, methanol and geothermal energy is accelerating. In the first quarter of 2024, the number of vehicles fueled by hydrogen fuel cells reached 1,084. A total of 1,267 methanol heavy-duty trucks were promoted, with 19 new methanol refueling stations added. Meanwhile, geothermal energy had a heating capacity of over 15 million square meters.
In addition, in the first three years of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25), growth in coal consumption in the province was lower than the national average, and the proportion of coal consumption in primary energy continued to decline.
In 2023, the energy consumption per unit of GDP in the province decreased by 2.9 percent compared to the previous year, with a decrease of more than 3.4 percentage points compared to the national average.
