Shanxi has been sending foreign aid medical teams to Djibouti since 1981, with a total of 23 batches and 213 personnel currently dispatched. The 22nd batch of medical teams to aid Djibouti was sent by the Second People's Hospital of Jinzhong, the First People's Hospital of Jinzhong, and the Jinzhong Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital. They arrived in Djibouti in May 2023 and began their one-year foreign aid medical mission.

During this period, the medical teams completed more than 26,000 outpatient visits, over 1,900 surgeries, six free medical consultations and rounds of visits, and three traditional Chinese medicine training sessions with 74 trainees in attendance. The medical teams have won high praise from the government and people of Djibouti, making outstanding contributions to consolidating and promoting the friendship between China and Djibouti.
