Since 2022, North China's Shanxi province has had four abandoned mine ecological restoration demonstration projects in Datong, Linfen, Xinzhou, and Shuozhou, which have passed the national competitive evaluation and received central financial subsidies.
In 2023, the restoration demonstration projects in Linfen and Datong successfully passed the national competitive evaluation and received a total of 600 million yuan ($82.81 million) in central financial support.
The projects in Xinzhou and Shuozhou also recently passed the national competitive evaluation and are expected to receive a total of 600 million yuan in central financial support.
Xinzhou's project involves 82 townships in eight counties, repairing 309 abandoned mining spots with a restoration area of 12.29 square kilometers. It will receive a central subsidy fund of 300 million yuan, a provincial-level financial support fund of 100 million yuan, a city and county-level financial support fund of 100 million yuan, and a social capital investment of 30 million yuan.
Shuozhou's project involves five counties and districts, repairing 771 abandoned mining spots with a restoration area of 15.55 square kilometers. It will receive a central subsidy fund of 300 million yuan, a provincial-level financial support fund of 100 million yuan, a city and county-level financial support fund of 112 million yuan, and a social capital investment of 55 million yuan.
Moving forward, Shanxi will make full use of the central financial funds to complete the ecological restoration of abandoned mining sites in the province, so as to promote the ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin.
