North China's Shanxi province recently issued the Implementation Opinions on Comprehensively Promoting the Construction of a Beautiful Shanxi, which systematically identified the main goals, major tasks, and promotion mechanisms for making Shanxi more beautiful.

In recent years, Shanxi has been carrying out the integrated protection and systematic management of mountains, rivers, forests, fields, lakes, grasslands, and sands. Strong efforts have also been put into the reduction of carbon emissions and pollution, expansion of green areas, and economic growth. The average concentration of PM2.5 in the province has decreased to 37 micrograms per cubic meter, and significant progress has been made in beautifying Shanxi.

According to the implementation opinions, Shanxi is expected to be fully beautified by the middle of this century, specifically achieving tasks such as completing sustainability in production and daily life, achieving deep decarbonization in key areas, maintaining a healthy and beautiful natural environment, and modernizing the environmental governance system and capacity.

To this end, Shanxi will accelerate the green and low-carbon transformation of its development model by peaking carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality, advancing the green and low-carbon transformation of the industrial structure, and enhancing resource conservation, intensive circulation, and efficient utilization.

Furthermore, the province will constantly work to improve the quality of its water environment, prevent soil and groundwater pollution, and strengthen the treatment of solid waste and new pollutants.

Meanwhile, Shanxi will continue to strengthen biodiversity protection, promote green and low-carbon lifestyles, establish a diversified participation action system, and work to effectively combat climate change by strictly controlling environmental risks and strengthening biosecurity management.
