Changzhi recently became the only city in North China's Shanxi province to be included on the national list of climate-resilient pilot cities released by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

Climate-resilient cities refer to those that fully consider the impact of climate change in their urban planning, construction, and management processes, and take corresponding measures to reduce the adverse effects of climate change, thus ensuring that they are able to operate safely and develop in a sustainable way.

The measures taken by these cities include optimizing urban spatial layout, improving infrastructure, increasing green vegetation, managing water resources, and assessing and managing disaster risks.

The climate-resilient pilot cities were jointly selected and announced by multiple departments such as the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Natural Resources after a process that involved application, recommendation, expert evaluation, and comprehensive research.

The list released includes 39 cities and districts in total, covering seven major geographical zones in the country and ranging from mega cities to small cities.
