According to Guangzhou Daily Data & Digit Institute (GDI), two vocational universities based in North China's Shanxi province ranked 8th and 17th in the "GDI University Rankings (2024) - Top 30 Vocational Undergraduate Universities".

The GDI University Rankings are used to reflect the development trends and structural changes in China's higher education sector. This year, the GDI has set six primary indicators, 15 secondary indicators, and over 130 detailed criteria to objectively and scientifically evaluate the current development status of undergraduate vocational universities in China.

Ranked 8th in the top 30 list, Shanxi Vocational University of Engineering Science and Technology is located in Jinzhong city and represents the first provincially-administered public undergraduate vocational university.

Yuncheng Vocational and Technical University, ranked 17th, is the first pilot undergraduate vocational education institution in Shanxi. It is also a national-level coal mining safety training base and a national-level vocational education teacher training base.

Vocational education is closely linked to economic and social development and is of great significance to employment and entrepreneurship. During the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, Shanxi is working to build a comprehensive platform that integrates research, production, application, learning, and cultural heritage. This platform will be used to support the high-quality development of the province's modern vocational education sector.
