The 2024 Shanxi Mass Reading Conference opened at the Taiyuan Library in Taiyuan city, North China's Shanxi province, on April 18.

During the event, a series of diverse reading activities will be held to promote a widespread reading-oriented culture.

In the library, the national reading promotion exhibition has attracted large crowds. "This year, we have prepared more than 6,000 types of books, totaling more than 20,000 volumes, for the national reading promotion exhibition and the book fair hosted by Xinhua Bookstore. In the future, we will launch thousands of reading events at hundreds of bookstores across the province, hoping to create a strong reading atmosphere," said Dong Runze, a staff member of Shanxi Publishing Media Group.

Over the last year, Shanxi organized over 2,000 reading promotion activities via the public reading service system, which consists of more than 120 libraries, 3,200 bookstores, and over 18,800 rural libraries, as well as venues and platforms such as workers' libraries, community reading rooms, and radio and television networks. 

These activities included book exhibitions, lectures, public readings, essay competitions, and knowledge contests, with participant numbers reaching tens of millions.
