The unveiling ceremony of the first cross-Strait folk exchange base of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots in North China's Shanxi province was held at the Hongtong Dahuaishu Ancestor Memorial Garden on April 3.

The base will provide compatriots from both sides of the Taiwan Strait with more opportunities to learn about shared history and culture as well as promote common development.

During the unveiling ceremony, Zhang Luping, Party secretary of Hongtong county, said that the exchange base was opened in response increasing demand engagement between both sides of the Strait.

"In the future, Hongtong will give full play to the base to strengthen friendly exchanges and interaction with Taiwan compatriots from all walks of life," added Zhang.

Zheng Ping, vice-president of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, stated that the Hongtong Dahuaishu ancestral memorial activity carries rich cultural significance and has become an important ancestral memorial ceremony for Chinese both at home and abroad.

It is hoped that the base will integrate traditional ancestral culture with modern concepts so as to encourage more young people from both sides of Taiwan Strait to participate in the preservation and development of traditional culture.
