Shanxi's companies listed as exemplary bases for ICH protection
Updated: 2024-04-02
Three companies from North China's Shanxi province were included in 2023-2025 list of national-level intangible cultural heritage (ICH) productive protection demonstration bases, which was announced by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on March 28.
Productive protection is an important approach to safeguarding intangible cultural heritage, primarily applied in the conservation of traditional fine arts and craftsmanship. It is beneficial for promoting the integration of traditional crafts and modern technologies, enhancing the core competitiveness of enterprises, and achieving high-quality inheritance and development of the traditional techniques.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism identified 99 enterprises and institutions from across China in the list, following expert reviews, on-site inspections, and public announcements.
The three Shanxi companies are Pingyao Tangdu Polished Lacquer Co in Pingyao county, selected for its polished lacquerware making techniques; Guanyao Earthenware and Pottery Art Co in Pingding county, selected for its pottery firing techniques; and Shanxi Yang's Ancient Architecture Engineering Co, selected for its Yanmen architectural techniques.
The ministry will provide support to the listed demonstration bases in terms of enterprise cultivation, talent development, resource matchmaking, project services, and brand promotion.
