Shanxi establishes fund for cultural relic protection
Updated: 2024-01-15
The Shanxi Cultural Relic Protection Fund was officially established recently.
From 2023 to 2027, the Shanxi provincial financial department will allocate 5 million yuan ($699,174.56) annually to the fund to ensure its operation.
Shanxi, known for its rich cultural relics, has the largest number of cultural relic sites under national key protection in China, leading to high demand for funds to protect cultural relics. In recent years, the provincial government has increased investment in cultural relic protection funds, with an annual investment of nearly 600 million yuan from national and provincial governments.
As the first provincial government-approved public welfare cultural relic protection fund in the country, the Shanxi Cultural Relic Protection Fund will help broaden investment channels for the protection of cultural relics in the province.
It will also encourage and attract the participation of private capital in the protection of cultural relics, promote widespread public involvement in the protection of cultural relics, strengthen research and exchange activates related to cultural relics and help spread awareness of the importance of cultural relics.
