Shuozhou Zirun Airport in Shuozhou city, North China's Shanxi province, was officially opened for commercial flights on Dec 18.

Located in Zirun township and 22.5 kilometers away from the city center, the airport is capable of accommodating aircraft models such as Airbus A321, Boeing 737-800, and similar types. It's designed to handle an annual passenger throughput of 550,000, cargo throughput of 2,200 metric tons, and 5,663 aircraft takeoffs and landings.

During its construction, energy-efficient architecture, renewable energy, and deploying clean and sustainable resources were implemented to achieve low-carbon operation. For instance, photovoltaic panels were installed on auxiliary buildings in the terminal areas and solar charging stations in public parking lots. Over 70 percent of airport vehicles throughout the airport are run on new energy.

The airport's official opening marks the formation of Shanxi's "one trunk and seven branches" air transportation network, providing robust support for constructing a modern, high-quality, comprehensive transportation system and expanding external connectivity in Shuozhou.

Regarding flight routes, the airport has already commenced flights between the city and Shanghai. It will gradually open more flights to destinations such as Tianjin, Changsha, and Haikou to meet the increasing travel demands of Shuozhou residents and neighboring communities.
