Russian ballet to stage 'Swan Lake' in Shanxi

The ballet Swan Lake, presented by the Mariinsky Ballet and the Mariinsky Orchestra, will be performed in North China's Shanxi province from Oct 26 to 29.
It was announced at a press conference at Shanxi Grand Theatre in the provincial capital Taiyuan on Oct 16.
Zou Haiqun, general manager of Shanxi Poly Theatre Management Co, said the Mariinsky Theatre is the oldest and most renowned playhouse in Russia. This is its first time coming to Shanxi, which marks the only stop in the central-west region of China for the theatre's China tour.

"During this performance tour, we are sending nearly 200 dancers and members of the orchestra to bring a visual and auditory feast to local audiences," said Yuri Fateev, executive director of the Mariinsky Ballet.
He expressed hope the tour will open up new areas of cooperation and make positive contributions to China-Russian cultural exchanges.
Shanxi remains committed to promoting the development of its cultural industry. As a world-class venue and producer, the Mariinsky Theatre will deliver performances that enhance audience' sense of cultural appreciation and enrich the cultural services offered in the province, according to Zhao Shuguang, deputy director of the Shanxi Department of Culture and Tourism.
