Shanxi Department of Transportation announced on Oct 15 that Shanxi province will complete the construction of three major tourism highways spanning a total length of 13,000 kilometers and form a comprehensive tourism highway network by 2024.

The province has allocated 100.1 billion yuan ($13.79 billion) to plan and construct the three tourism highways known as Yellow River No 1, Great Wall No 1 and Taihang No 1. Currently, 9,797 km have been completed, accounting for 76 percent of the planned mileage, with the main lines of all three already interconnected.

Meanwhile, 685 km of slow lanes, 100 rest stops, 42 camper sites, and 125 observation decks have been constructed along the tourist highways. The construction of charging stations for all 74 rest stops and camping sites has also commenced, with 5G base station coverage reaching 84 percent. These tourism highways have connected 158 A-rated scenic spots and 536 non-A-rated tourist attractions, effectively linking 109 counties, county-level cities and districts, and 4,650 villages province-wide.
