The ongoing Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum – being held in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province – was the venue for the release on Sept 6 of the list of 2023 Global Top 500 New Energy Enterprises.  

According to the list, the total revenue generated by global new energy enterprises in 2023 exceeded 10 trillion yuan ($1.37 trillion). Of these, the total revenue from the top 500 enterprises reached 8.66 trillion yuan, a whopping 57.74 percent increase compared with the previous year's 5.49 trillion yuan.

Among the Chinese listees in the ranks of the top 500 enterprises, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co, Golden Concord Holdings and Power Construction Corporation of China – ranked the country's top three.

Over the past year, the global energy supply and demand pattern has undergone significant changes due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict and other geopolitical factors.

Energy prices have risen rapidly and the new energy industry has ushered in new development opportunities. Additionally, the explosive growth of global new energy vehicles has driven the battery industry to new levels of activity, leading to a surge in investment.

As a result, the new energy industry, especially solar energy and energy storage batteries, is said to have seen many outstanding enterprises emerge.
