Lan Fo'an, Party chief of North China's Shanxi province, met with Ambassador of Iceland to China Thórir Ibsen on Sept 5 in the provincial capital Taiyuan, with the aim of deepening cooperation in the energy sector.
Lan expressed his warm welcome to the Icelandic delegation for its participation in the coming Taiyuan Energy Low Carbon Development Forum (TELC) on Sept 6-8 as the guest country of honor, and wished them success in all of their activities at the forum.
Lan said the TELC, which is about to launch its 7th edition, has gained global attention. This reflects the international community's recognition of China's contributions to global green and low-carbon development, he noted.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of the signing of the Iceland-China Free Trade Agreement. Shanxi is willing to extend cooperation in green and low-carbon energy development technologies with Iceland, and expand exchanges and cooperation in trade, culture, tourism, and exhibitions, contributing to the growing friendship between the two countries and facilitating win-win outcomes, Lan added.
Ibsen expressed his gratitude to Shanxi for the invitation, noting that he greatly appreciated China and Shanxi's efforts and achievements in promoting green and low-carbon energy development and addressing climate change.
He said he was looking forward to more close cooperation with Shanxi in the geothermal energy, carbon cycling, and clean energy fields to jointly promote sustainable development.
