Datong city in North China's Shanxi province was recently awarded the title of "Preferred Destination for Summer Tourism in 2023" at the 2023 China Summer Tourism Development Report Conference. 

The selection criteria mainly include climatic conditions, the number and variety of scenic areas located there, the popularity of local tourist sites, the city's attractiveness as a summer getaway destination, its altitude, and the quality of local tourism services.

A total of 40 cities and counties nationwide have received the honor, and Datong was the only city in Shanxi to make the cut. 

Located at a 40 degree north latitude, Datong is a naturally blessed and highly livable "summer resort" city. 

With a highest average temperature of 26 degrees Celsius during the peak of summer and a pleasant relative humidity of 50 percent, the city provides an optimal climate for visitors. 

Additionally, it boasts 3,000 hours of sunlight every year on average and is situated at an altitude of 1,000 meters, making it conducive to the accumulation of negative oxygen ions, which is beneficial for people's health.
