Dryland wheat yield reaches new high in Shanxi

Shanxi province has harvested more than 1,765 square kilometers of wheat as of June 12, with this season's wheat harvest now 32.12 percent complete. 

On June 11, the yield per mu (666.67 square meters) at the "Chang 6990" dryland wheat breeding base in Caojiazhuang village, Liujiayuan town, Hongtong county reached 582.9 kilograms, breaking the previous record of dryland wheat yield per mu of 579.9 kg. 

According to Zhang Junling, breeder of the "Chang 6990" variety, the variety boasts an excellent quality, is highly resistant to disease, drought, and cold weather, has a stable production output, and can be promoted in other provinces of Shaanxi, Hebei, Henan and Gansu. 

The main wheat-producing areas in the cities of Yuncheng, Linfen, and Jincheng have now all entered the harvest season.
