The premiere of a new musical symphony – The Yellow River – was performed on Sunday by the Shanxi Symphony Orchestra, with the Hukou Waterfall crashing in the background.

The music, combined with the spectacular waterfall, a natural wonder on the river, attracted crowds of spectators to the scenic area in Jixian county of Linfen, Shanxi province.

The Yellow River is said to be the mother river of the Chinese nation and a spiritual symbol of Chinese civilization. The symphonic work, which consists of five movements, deeply explores the values of traditional Chinese culture and helps tell the nation's story.

It took three years for the Shanxi Symphony Orchestra to complete the work and polish the performance.
