North China's Shanxi province recently began to implement a plan to promote the low-carbon development of the Taiyuan-Xinzhou Integrated Economic Zone.

The plan clearly states that the zone should provide guarantees and supply raw materials in order to build an important corridor which will allow Shanxi to integrate into the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and serve the Xiongan New Area. This will create a hub for strategic emerging industries and modern service industries, as well as drive the rapid development of the middle reaches of the Fenhe River.

Relying on rich geothermal resources in the Taiyuan and Xinzhou basins, Shanxi will increase the large-scale development of clean energy, such as geothermal energy, hot dry rock, and shallow geothermal energy. It will also promote the low-carbon development of the Taiyuan-Xinzhou Integrated Economic Zone.

The zone will promote the centralized development and utilization of large and extra-large sand and gravel materials. The zone is also encouraged to do more research and development in order to incorporate tailings, stone powder, mud powder, and other construction waste into new building materials.
