Shanxi sees strong results in agricultural production

Shanxi province's agricultural production saw strong results in 2022, according to the Shanxi Statistics Bureau. 

The annual grain growing area was 31,503.33 square kilometers, an increase of 0.4 percent year-on-year, while the total annual grain output was 14.64 million metric tons, an increase of 3.0 percent over the previous year.

The province expanded the scale of protected agriculture by accelerating the reconstruction of old greenhouses, building standardized industrial parks for vegetable greenhouses, promoting intelligent technology in facilities and equipment and transplanting technology of large seedlings, developing vegetable products, and expanding the edible fungus industry. 

In 2022, the vegetable-growing area in the province was 2,306.67 sq km, an increase of 6.7 percent year-on-year, while the output of vegetables and edible fungi was 10.42 million tons, up 6.7 percent year-on-year.

Shanxi began work on a project to improve the quality and efficiency of fruit production last year by promoting the construction of high-standard orchards, the integrated technology of fruit tree planting, and the planting of new varieties.

The fruit output in 2022 was 10.18 million tons, an increase of 4.4 percent over the previous year.

The province's animal husbandry production showed rapid growth over the past year. 

The annual output of pork, beef, mutton and poultry reached 1.43 million tons, up 6.0 percent year-on-year, while the output of eggs and milk respectively increased 4.5 percent and 5.7 percent year-on-year to 1.18 million tons and 1.43 million tons.

In addition, Shanxi generated 221.90 billion yuan ($32.86 billion) in output value and 141.54 billion yuan in added value in the agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishing industries, up 5.3 percent and 5.1 percent year-on-year, respectively.
