First session of 14th Shanxi Provincial People's Congress opens

The first session of the 14th Shanxi Provincial People's Congress opened on Jan 12 in Taiyuan, capital of North China's Shanxi province, with 515 deputies attending.

Lan Fo'an, Party chief of Shanxi, presided over the plenary congress.

Jin Xiangjun, acting governor of Shanxi, delivered the provincial government work report that stated the achievements made over the past five years, as well as new targets for the province's development in 2023 and the five years to come. 

In the report, Jin summarized the achievements of Shanxi's socioeconomic development in the past five years from nine aspects including comprehensive strength, transformation, the construction of new integrated energy bases, the business environment, urban and rural development, the ecological environment, people's livelihood, and social undertakings.

The provincial government's work report set new targets for Shanxi in 2023 in 12 aspects, including industrial transformation, business environment development, the development of the urban agglomeration in central Shanxi, project construction, reform and opening-up, green and low-carbon development, and people's well-being.

Deputies examined the reports on the overall budget revenue of Shanxi in 2022 and the draft budget for 2023. They also reviewed how the 2022 national economic and social development plan was implemented by the Shanxi Provincial Government, and the 2023 national economic and social development draft plan. 

In addition, the plenary congress voted to the approval of the composition of special committees for the 14th Provincial People's Congress. They approved the list of members for the Legislative Affairs Committee, the Supervisory and Judicial Committee, the Financial and Economic Affairs Committee, and the Social Construction Committee.
