Due to a package of policies and measures, the digital economy of North China's Shanxi province has seen strong development in recent years.

Shanxi has strengthened the construction of digital infrastructure. Over 50,000 5G base stations have been built in the province, five secondary nodes for industrial internet identification analysis have been connected to the national platform, and seven more are under construction. The Advanced Computing (Taiyuan) Center has been officially launched and put into operation.

The core industries of the digital sector have ranked among the top in the country. The optoelectronics, photovoltaics, semiconductors, and computer industries in the province have maintained double-digit growth. Silicon carbide single crystal substrates, photovoltaic cells, and new special-purpose display equipment have led China in terms of production quantity.

The revenue of the province's digital core industries has reached 194.8 billion yuan ($28.58 billion) and the scale of the digital economy has exceeded 430 billion yuan.

The level of industrial digitalization has continued to improve as well, and 207 smart factories and digital workshops have been built. The numerical control rate of key processes in industrial enterprises above designated size has reached 57.8 percent.

The construction of a digital government has continued to accelerate, with more than 90 percent of the province's government services capable of being handled entirely online.

Liu Yong, deputy director of the Shanxi Department of Industry and Information Technology, said that the province will focus on improving the quality of traditional industries, expanding emerging industries, and coordinating the development of digital industrialization and industrial digitalization to consolidate digital infrastructure.
