North China's Shanxi province recently issued its 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) for the development of green transportation.

The plan specifies that by 2025, Shanxi will make its transportation infrastructure more eco-friendly, transportation equipment cleaner, and transportation organization more efficient.

According to the plan, Shanxi will focus on nine major tasks, including optimizing the layout and structure of transportation, building eco-friendly transportation infrastructure, strengthening comprehensive transportation pollution prevention and control, promoting the intensive recycling of transportation resources, and strengthening technological innovation and support for green transportation.

Over the past few decades, Shanxi has achieved rapid development in the construction of transportation infrastructure and transportation services.

A total of 5,763 kilometers of expressways in the province have been completed and opened to traffic, all of the planned 12,500 km of national and provincial highways have been constructed, and the total mileage of rural roads has reached 126,000 km.

The province's railway operating mileage has reached 6,247 km, of which 1,150 km are high-speed railways. The high-speed railway passenger service currently covers nine cities.

Airports in Shanxi have opened 278 passenger flights to 82 cities and six cargo flights to seven navigable cities. The local Shanxi General Aviation Group has opened seven short-distance flights within the province and two inter-provincial flights, making Shanxi the province with the highest density of short-distance flights in China.
